In partnership with North Vallejo Little League (NVLL), the PitCCh In Foundation established the All-Star Baseball Clinic to introduce baseball to a new generation of young girls and boys ages 5 to 12. The clinic takes place every January at both Thurmon and Williams Baseball fields, which has become the annual kick off for North Vallejo Little League’s sign-up and community awareness campaigns. This top-flight instructional clinic features current and former MLB players, local coaches, guest speakers, and a picnic lunch. Each year, Amber and CC, along with CC’s mom Margie, help organize and run the clinic, from selecting the coaches to purchasing supplies, to playing an active role on the field with the youngsters.
The clinic consists of drill stations to teach and develop an understanding of the sport and an opportunity to talk with coaches who are seasoned professionals in baseball and the community. The event has more than tripled in size from 125 kids in the first year to 350 kids this past January, where CC served as one of the coaches and a mentor for the all-day event. In the summer of 2012 and in partnership with ProCamps, the foundation held its first All-Star Baseball Clinic on the east coast. A total of 248 students from ages 6 to 14 participated in a number of teaching drill stations and a baseball game. Over 60 students received scholarships to attend the clinic and were selected from the Boys and Girls Club of Garfield and the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. CC participated in all the drill stations with the youngsters and each left with an autograph from CC and a team photo. Another unique component of the day was a young Yankee fan, battling Leukemia, who was selected by the Make A Wish Foundation of New Jersey to participate in the camp and spend time with CC.
