The Nathan Berhel Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Nathan Berhel, CC’s cousin, as a scholar athlete at Vallejo High School. He left us too soon, but his memory lives on in the successes of the young people that he has inspired.
A curve ball rarely rattles Anthony Piquit—on or off the field. He is able to do this with the support of his family, which is very important to him. This was the primary reason that he stayed close to home and is entering his last year at Solano Community College. He knew that going away for school would put an added strain on his family’s finances and felt it was important to do his part to ensure his two sisters were receiving similar opportunities that he had growing up.
Anthony is thankful for being selected as one of the 2011 Nathan Berhel Scholarship recipients. He has been able to use these funds to cover tuition and books. It is especially meaningful, as this scholarship will have paid for almost all of his Associates degree by the time he graduates in the Spring, and Anthony will be the first in his family to complete a post secondary degree...Read more
"No days promised… And everyday I’m being productive and living out every dream or getting closer to that dream.” This is the motto Reyanna Stowes lives by and her take on living life to its fullest. It is not surprising that Reyanna is putting this into practice as she thrives in her second year at Jackson State University in Mississippi.
Reyanna’s first year was met with the typical challenges of balancing schoolwork and extracurricular activities, as well as adjusting to being away from her family several states away. She tackled each challenge with hard work and determination. She maxed out on course units for Fall and Spring semesters, where she earned the distinction of Dean’s List honors with a 3.5 grade point average. Outside of the classroom, Reyanna excelled as a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams, an extracurricular activity that she has been passionate about throughout high school. She attended long practices and all of the team games, even the ones in Texas and Tennessee. She is quickly learning how to manage all of her commitments to ensure she does them to the best of her ability.Read more
